U Class No. 31806 GCR Gala report
Over the weekend of 29th – 31st January, U Class No. 31806 operated at the Great Central Railways winter gala with Swanage Railway Fireman Jack Haynes as owners representative for the locomotive. The other visitor to the railway was Southern Locomotives Rebuilt Battle of Britain Bullied Pacific No. 34053 ‘Sir Keith Park’ from the nearby Severn Valley Railway. The home fleet of locomotives were 6990 ‘Witherslack Hall’ 9F No. 92214 (running as 92220 ‘Evening Star’), 8F No. 48624, Black 5 No. 45305, 4F Jinty No. 47406 and King Arthur No. 777 ‘Sir Lamiel’. This selection of images was taken during a Photographic Charter organised for 31806 by Timeline Events. The morning session ran with a rake of three Blood and Custard Mk 1s and the afternoon session consisted of the railways mixed freight rake. The locomotive worked numerous run pasts at Swithland Sidings, Woodthorpe and Kinchley Lane.
